Dear Stephanie: Thank you for a good question. Manufacturer's coupon instructions typically say "one coupon per purchase." When you are taking advantage of a BOGO offer, you are, in fact, purchasing both items (nothing is free). Most supermarkets will accept the two coupons. However, as I have said, the supermarket makes coupon-redemption policies.

WIPE OUT

Some supermarkets now understand that customers are concerned about health problems associated with unsanitary shopping carts. I have praised those stores that provide customers with sanitizing wipes. A reader in Pennsylvania is critical:

Dear Martin: To suggest that the supermarkets should provide sanitary wipes for your use is ludicrous. This will only increase the store's operating costs, and knowing the attitude of some shoppers, they will not stop at using only one wipe. How many times have you witnessed shoppers taking a handful of the plastic bags provided at the produce section?

Dear Martin: Several years ago, I read your column about sending coupons to overseas military bases. Shortly after, there was a request for coupons from Karen in Germany. I began sending her coupons. From the first time I sent them, she has responded with news and thanks after each bundle. About a year ago, I invited my East Huntingdon Lioness Club to join me in saving and sending coupons. We are from the Mount Pleasant, Greensburg, New Stanton and Scottsdale areas. As a group, we now routinely send boxes of coupons and continue to receive thanks from Karen each time. She deserves recognition for her efforts in obtaining and distributing the coupons and for her letters to those who assist her. I thank you for making this program known so that we may show support for our service members and families in this small way. I am also very proud to belong to a club of ladies who quietly, yet faithfully, work in many ways to help others.
