What is a treble bet?

A treble bet is simple to understand. It’s where you take three single outright selections, often known as legs, that are combined into one multiple bet. The treble bet needs all three selections to be successful for your bet to win. If one of the three selections is unsuccessful, then the entire treble bet loses. As a multiple bet, a treble can increase the odds much more than a single or double, which is what has made it such a popular form of bet, but this also brings an increased risk of losing. All the selections in treble betting must be from separate events, such as three different horse races or three different football matches. See below for odds for betting trebles explained. You can place treble bets during the World Cup, which can be particularly good when there are four games a day during the group stage of the competition. Already used the bet365 bonus code? How is a treble bet worked out?

A treble bet is worked out by placing the return from each leg on the next as a stake. The winnings from the first bet will be placed on the second as a stake, with the winnings of the second bet then placed on the third bet as a stake, which will then give you your potential winnings. If you have bet on three horses at odds of 4/1, 3/1 and 2/1, this is how the odds for a treble bet would be worked out. You add one to each of the odds, multiply them together and subtract one (for your stake). So 4/1 x 3/1 x 2/1 - 1 becomes (5 x 4 x 3) -1 = 59/1 (Please note that if one of your prices has a second number other than 1 – for example 7/2 or 10/3 – then you add that number instead of one. So 7/2 becomes 9/2, and 10/3 becomes 13/3.) If all of your selections are successful, you will win the bet and below is how much you would expect to see back from a £5 stake. Successful win treble bet winnings (£5 stake x 4/1 x 3/1 x 2/1) - 1 = £295 profit + £5 stake * When multiplying odds together, remember adding one to odds that aren’t ‘something to 1’ means adding the bottom number of the price to the top one. So 7/2 becomes 9/2 and 9/4 becomes 13/4.

If any one of your selections fails to win, then your entire treble bet will lose. This is not the case if you have placed an each-way treble, in which case you would still see a return if all of the horses were to place. You can read more about each-way betting in our in-depth guide.

What is an each-way treble bet?

An each-way treble is made up of two separate bets: a win treble and a place treble. Because you are placing two bets, the stake will be doubled. For example, if you place £5 on an each-way treble, your stake is doubled to £10, £5 for the win part and £5 for the place part. Returning to the above example, if you place a £5 each-way treble on three horses with odds of 4/1, 3/1 and 2/1, the odds on the win part are 59/1, so you will bank £300 for that element. The odds for the place part of the treble bet are a fraction of the odds, usually one-fifth, so when it comes to multiplying out the odds, remember to divide each stake by five and add five to the top number. So 4/1 x 3/1 x 2/1 - 1 becomes (9/5 x 8/5 x 7/5) -1 = 3.032/1 If all of your selections place, this is how much you would expect to see back from a £5 stake. Successful place treble bet winnings (£5 stake x 9/5 x 8/5 x 7/5) - 1 = £15.16 profit + £5 stake If all the horses win, you would win both the win and place parts of your each-way treble bet. If all the horses place then you lose the win part of the bet but win the place part of the bet. If one horse loses, then you lose both your win and place parts of the bet. Successful each-way treble bet winnings (win and place) = £320.16 (£300 win and £20.16 place) Now you know everything you need to know about treble bets, take advantage of the best bookmaker offers on our free bets page.
