Read More »Rumors of a more powerful variant of Aston Martin's wildly popular DBX have been circling the car world for months. It was only a matter of time before a high-performance version of the British SUV became official. The DBX707 gets a 4.0-liter V-8 tuned to nearly 700 hp, paired to an all-new gearbox, better brakes, and a totally retuned suspension system. With a claimed top speed of 193 mph, it's also the fastest production SUV on the planet. The DBX707 has plenty of changes on the outside to help differentiate from the standard DBX. There's a new fascia with an exaggerated splitter, along with new side skirts and a new rear end. Those massive wheels measure 22 inches as standard, with the option to upgrade to 23s. They shroud standard carbon-ceramic brakes measuring 16.5 inches up front and 15.4 inches in the rear. They're clamped by six-piston calipers up front and 4-pistons out back. Of course, the biggest changes for the DBX707 come underneath the skin. Thanks to new ball-bearing turbochargers and a tune, the AMG-sourced V-8 is now pushing a claimed 697 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 663 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm—155 more horses and 147 lb-ft over the standard DBX. The 707 number comes from the horsepower converted to PS, in case you were wondering. There's also a new nine-speed automatic that Aston promises will deliver better in-gear response and faster gear changes while also retaining efficiency and refinement. The all-wheel-drive system remains fully automated, capable of sending up to 100 percent of the power to the rear if needed. There's a new electronic limited-slip differential that's been beefed up to handle the extra twist. It packs a shorter final drive ratio for better acceleration. Aston claims a 0-62 time of 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 193 mph, which would make it 3 mph quicker than the current fastest production SUV, the Bentley Bentayga Speed. Handling all that extra grunt is a retuned air suspension with new damper valving, paired to newly tuned active roll bars for flatter, more predictable cornering. The electronic steering has also been retuned to provide greater effort as the wheel travels farther off-center, meant as a way to communicate increasing corner loads to the driver. Aston Martin plans to start production of the DBX707 in quarter one of 2022, with deliveries beginning in early Q2. Starting MSRP comes in at $232,000, a $46,400 premium over the standard DBX.
