Cookie Settings Although it shares its name with a type of fragrant candle which makes the ideal Mother’s Day present, a Yankee is actually a multiple bet which can be used on loads of different sports using the Paddy Power website or app. This multiple bet has 4 different selections and will provide some sort of return even if only 50% of your picks are winners. It’s made up of 11 different bets which are broken down into 1 x fourfold (the holy grail!), 4 x trebles and 6 x doubles. Once you’ve picked your 4 surefire winners (fingers crossed!), you can add them to your betting slip and they will look like this:

Fourfold – Selections 1-2-3-4 MUST win.

Trebles – Any combination of 1-2-3, 1-3-4, 1-2-4 or 2-3-4 winning will result in a payout. Doubles – Any combination of 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-3, 2-4, 3-4 winning will also see some of your stake returned. Once you’ve ‘ummed and ahhed’ over your selections, add them to your betting slip before scrolling down to the bottom of the page and selecting ‘Yankee’. As we’ve already mentioned, your Yankee bet will feature 11 possible outcomes and it’s important to be a little more considerate when it comes to staking. A £1 Yankee would actually be calculated as 11 x £1 bets (on each potential outcome) and will cost £11 in total. The larger your stake, the more handsome your payout is likely to be! If you’ve been given a couple of ‘hot tips’ on today’s horse racing or you really fancy a couple of goalscorers in the Premier League, it is really straightforward to place a Yankee bet with Paddy Power.

How to Calculate Your Winnings?

Once you’ve placed your Yankee bet, there may be a strong temptation to begin planning how to spend your winnings. But how will you know whether you can afford to book a two-week break to the Algarve?

Paddy Power’s bet calculator allows you to work out your returns by inputting the odds for each of the four selections. Don’t forget to select ‘Yankee’ from the drop-down box. Once you’ve placed your bet, you can check on the progress of your wager at any point. If your first selection is a loser, your betting slip will automatically adjust the returns.

Can You Do an Each-Way Yankee Bet?

It is really simple to place an each-way Yankee, although your stake will be doubled as a result. Simply tick the E/W box which is next to the potential returns. A 50p each-way Yankee is calculated as 22 (11+11) x 0.50 which would require a total stake of £11. Each-way betting options are only available on a small number of sports including horse racing and greyhound racing. If each of your four selections finish in the place positions, you’ll still be paid out as long as you’ve pushed the boat out and opted for an each-way Yankee bet. These types of bets are incredibly popular during events such as the Cheltenham Festival due to competitive fields. This can often result in unfancied outsiders running into the places.

What is the Difference Between a Yankee and a Lucky 15?

There are plenty of similarities between a Yankee and Lucky 15 with both multiples made up of four selections. However, Yankee bets are slightly cheaper as they only consist of eleven potential outcomes. Unfortunately, they don’t offer a pay-out if you’re having a bad day and are only able to find one winner. Yankee bets are ideal if you’re feeling confident that two or more of your picks are surefire winners.
