Read More »Hip-Hop artist Drake has become a regular gambler on UFC fights and has lost a staggering $2.6 million in total wagers on the events, having lost another $1.5m on Israel Adesanya's KO defeat to Alex Pereira Rapper Drake has lost almost $3million betting on UFC fights in the last year. Hip-Hop artist Drake is one of the most popular musicians in the world having made collaborations with the likes of Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Kendrick Lamar. It is estimated the high-profile Canadian has an net worth of around $260m which has seen him become invested in betting on UFC fights. There has been many times the rapper has seemingly caused bad luck for sporting competitors with fans labelling the unfortunate turn of events as the 'Drake curse'. And his 'curse' has well and truly gripped the UFC, with Drake having lost a total of $2.6m in overall stakes. Drake first backed UFC star Jorge Masvidal to defeat bitter rival Colby Covington in their grudge welterweight clash in March, staking $275,000 on 'Gamebred'. However Masvidal was defeated by unanimous decision on the judges scorecards, which saw the highest-selling digital artist lose his small fortune. Covington was quick to mock Drake for his losses while Masvidal was thankful he was backed by the musician and even invited him out to dinner to make up for the loss. Fans began to become captured by Drake's betting journey and it continued when he backed Justin Gaethje to cause an upset against Charles Oliveira in May. Drake gambled $400,000 on the American but Oliveira recorded a quick-fire submission to hand him another unfortunate loss and take his total to nearly $700,000 in just two wagers. However his bad streak ended when he finally placed a winning bet on Nigerian champion Israel Adesanya who was defending his belt against Jarod Cannonier in July. The 36-year-old placed a $1m wager on odds-on favourite Adesanya to retain his title which he did so in dominant fashion with a shut-out victory. Drake had called Adesanya in the build-up to the contest and was thankful his streak had finally come to an end. His lucky run continued in July when he placed a double wager on British pair Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann to win their second UFC London. outings of the year. Drake then staked $2.3m on a double bet which needed McCann to defeat Hannah Goldy and Pimblett to defeat Jordan Leavitt.

He was then forced by McCann and Pimblett to buy them Rolex watches which he delivered when the trio met in the US. However Drake's curse on UFC events returned the following month when he placed two separate bets on Jose Aldo in his return to the octagon along with champion Kamaru Usman. Drake first placed a $230,000 bet on Aldo which came up short after the Brazilian lost against Merab Dvalishvili. He also placed two bets on Usman to win and then by stoppage which totalled a further $200,000, with new British champion Leon Edwards instead causing a huge upset with a brutal KO in the final round. Drake's luck has now well and truly run out with his most recent bet also ending in tears. Drake returned to previous winner Adesanya with the hope of winning more money by placing $1.5m on 'The Last Stylebender' to retain his title against Alex Pereira. However Adesanya was stopped in the final round of his title defence as Pereira was crowned champion in just his fourth UFC fight.
