Exotic wagers are more difficult but typically pay off better than traditional bets. Examples of exotic wagers are an Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta, Daily Double, Pick 3 and Pick 4.

HOW TO BET AN EXOTIC:

Exacta: Great Meadow, race one, $2 exacta on the #3, #5-The #3 and #5 must finish in the exact order for you to win.

BOXING

Many people will box Exactas, Trifectas and Superfectas in order to make it easier to hit a winning ticket. Boxing the bet simply means you are playing all combination of the horses you selected, so that you win when they come in any order. In the example given above you only win if the #3 wins and #5 finishes second. If you box the exacta, you win if they finish #3, #5 or #5, #3. In the boxes below are examples of what boxing an exotic wager will cost depending on the number of horses you use in your box. Exacta Box # of Horses $1 Base Bet Cost 2 $2.00 3 $6.00 4 $12.00 5 $20.00 6 $30.00 7 $42.00 8 $56.00 9 $72.00 10 $90.00 Trifecta Box # of Horses $1 Base Bet Cost 3 $12.00 4 $24.00 5 $60.00 6 $120.00 7 $210.00 8 $336.00 9 $504.00 10 $720.00 11 $990.00 Superfecta Box # of Horses $.10 Base Bet Cost 4 $2.40 5 $12.00 6 $36.00 7 $84.00 8 $168.00 9 $302.40 10 $504.00 11 $792.00 12 $1188.00

KEYING

A key bet can be applied if you have a strong preference for one horse. You can key a horse in a Trifecta or Superfecta wager instead of boxing to save money. Typically a key designates one horse as the winner and boxes the other horses. Example: A Trifecta key using the #1 with the #2, #3, #4 means that the #1 horse must win and the #2, #3, #4 can finish second and third in any order. You do not have to just key the winner, you may also key a horse to finish second, third, or fourth.

Part Wheels can be applied to all exotic wagers and are a method of selecting more than one numbered horse to finish first, second, third or fourth. It can also be used to select more than one horse to win each leg of the pick 3, pick 4, pick 5 and pick 6. An example of a Part Wheel used in a Trifecta wager is: 1 & 2 to win, with 1, 2, 3 & 4 to place, with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 to show ( 1,2 with 1,2,3,4 with 1,2,3,4,5,6,7) To cash a ticket the 1 or 2 must win, the 1,2,3 or 4 must place and the 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 7 must finish third. A Part Wheel wager in a Pick – 3 might look like the following: Use #1 & #2 to win the first leg of the Pick- three, #4 & #5 to win the second leg and #2,#4 & #6 to win the third leg ( 1,2 with 4,5 with 2,4,6). To cash a ticket the one or two must win the first race of the wager, the four or five must win the second leg and either two, four or six must win the third.

BET A LITTLE TO WIN: BIG

1O CENT SUPERS

10 cent Superfectas are the cheapest and easiest way to win big at the track. When placing a Superfecta bet you try to pick the first four finishers in a race. You can play for as little as a dime so you can use a lot of horses for just a few dollars.

Below are a few examples of ways to play 10 cent supers:

5-horse box Cost: $12.00 A box lets you win if the horses come in any order. It’s the simplest but it’s also pricier. 1st: 1 2 3 4 5 2nd: 1 2 3 4 5 3rd: 1 2 3 4 5 4th: 1 2 3 4 5 5-horse key Cost: $2.40 As we explained before you may bring your cost down if you are willing to Key horses. In this example you win if your “key” horse wins and the others finish in any order behind him. 1st: 1 2nd: 2 3 4 5 3rd: 2 3 4 5 4th: 2 3 4 5

The Pick-4

The Pick-4 costs more than the 10 cent Superfecta but the rewards can be huge for picking four winners in a row. Like the 10 cent super, it’s much easier to hit if you use multiple horses in each spot. Here are some examples of ways to play the Pick-4 (typically the minimum Pick-4 bet is $.50): Simple part-wheel Cost: $8.00 Simply use your top two picks in each leg. Leg 1: 1 2 Leg 2: 1 2 Leg 3: 1 2 Leg 4: 1 2 Singling Cost: $9.00 Single a horse so you can add additional horses in other legs. Leg 1: 1 Leg 2: 1 2 Leg 3: 1 2 3 Leg 4: 1 2 3
