Tennis fans seeing the refreshments on offer at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships have been left gobsmacked at the prices fans are having to pay – with some shelling out £11 for a measly looking portion of chicken and chips. Elsewhere fans are being charged £7.10 for pints at the All England Tennis Club which has several cafes and bars where hungry fans can eat. Fans have been flocking to the South West London tennis club since Monday when the first round of the annual championships kicked off, with the likes of Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu drawing thousands of spectators. This has also meant the revival of the famous Queue outside, where fans will wait from the early hours in the morning for the chance of a ticket on the door. Unfortunately for those who do get a ticket, lunch comes at quite a price. With a chicken dinner at Wimbledon for a whopping £11 bringing you a dollop of coleslaw, a small portion of chips, one fried chicken wing, one drumstick, and one nugget, with a pot of barbecue sauce. Fans weren't too happy with the offering either, with many complaining on Twitter. One wrote: "Scrandalous. But then everything is there (how much for a strawberry?!) - yet folks still choose to pay the price..." To which a second replied: "Strawberries and cream are £2.50 at Wimbledon (price has remained the same since 2010). Clearly they make up their profit margins on everything else..." Others were unimpressed by the quality, one saying: "Where did they source their chicken from? BOSSMAN in most local chicken shop has more meat on their wings."

"£11 nicker???? Who’s serving? Dick Turpin?" Raged another.

It wasn't just the food either. Drinks prices also came under fire, with pints at £7.10. "How much was the deposit?" One cheeky fan asked. Others were more appreciative of the pint though, especially compared with the food; a second saying: "At least that looks drinkable. The chicken looks like something you'd chuck in the bin after a night out." A third added: "Looks far more refreshing and lively than the Carlsberg (£6.50) we paid for in Colwyn Bay for Noel Gallagher two weeks ago." Maybe some good advice would be to bring a packed lunch for those keen to head down to Wimbledon next week, or at the very least stick to those £2.50 strawberries!
