The following regulations shall apply to all students admitted to the University commencing academic year 2003/2004. The GPA regulations shall apply to all other students from 2006/2007 onwards. (a) The class of degree to be awarded shall be determined on the basis of weighted (programme) Grade Point Average (GPA). (b) In the calculation of the weighted (programme) GPA, a weight of zero shall be attached to all Level I courses. (c) Levels II and III courses shall have equal weight (credit for credit) in the determination of the weighted (programme) GPA. (d) Core courses satisfying the requirements of Specials, Majors and Minors must be taken into account in the determination of the weighted (programme) GPA. (e) A course designated at registration as Pass/Fail shall not count in the determination of the weighted (programme) GPA.

The class of degree shall be awarded as follows:

First Class Honours - Weighted GPA of 3.60 and above

Upper Second Class Honours - Weighted GPA of 3.00 - 3.59

Lower Second Class Honours - Weighted GPA of 2.50 - 2.99

Pass - Weighted GPA of 2.00 - 2.49

Except where otherwise prescribed in the Faculty’s regulations, a student whose degree GPA is less than 1 shall not be awarded a degree from the Faculty.
