Boxing is a sport that at a professional level moves a lot of money for athletes, television and other companies. There are some boxers that have made millions in and out of the ring, so we wanted to take a look back and explore who and how they became that rich. Floyd Mayweather earned $9 million in 2019 for a fight that lasted just 14 seconds, according to data from The Money. According to recent earnings reports, Canelo lvarez will likely be among the wealthiest boxers in history very soon.

These are the top 5 richest boxers of the last 10 years:

Floyd Mayweather

Mayweather earned the moniker "Money" for a reason; he gave many of his opponents their largest paydays and took part in the top four most popular pay-per-view fights ever. But Pacquaio, who earned $250 million for taking on the Filipino in 2015, gave Floyd his biggest payday. Since his retirement, Mayweather has kept fighting in exhibition matches to earn money, most recently taking on YouTuber Logan Paul.

George Foreman

The 81-fight veteran, who earned $200 million from his George Foreman grill alone, is ranked second on the list. Aside from food, Foreman has established himself as one of the greatest heavyweights to ever enter the ring by competing against boxers like Joe Frazier, Evander Holyfield, and Muhammad Ali. Foreman can keep grilling his steaks while grinning because he is the richest heavyweight on the list.

Manny Pacquiao

Net worth: $200 million

The fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather brought in an astounding $600 million, making it the highest grossing PPV of all time. Like a few other stars on this list, Pacquiao earned his biggest payday during that contest. The Filipino eventually became the only man to hold championships in eight different weight classes, rising from flyweight to light middleweight. Since then, Pacquiao has used his millions to launch a political career in the Philippines, his native country.

Oscar de la Hoya

Net worth: $200 million

Despite competing in some of the biggest fights of his career, including those against Felix Trinidad and Bernard Hopkins, 'The Golden Boy' earned his biggest paycheck of $52 million in one of his final fights against Mayweather He has worked with Virgil Ortiz Jr, Jaime Munguia, Gilberto Ramirez, Ryan Garcia, and Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo Alvarez

Net worth: $140 million

The last boxer on the list but the only one still competing in professional competition. The world's most marketable boxer is now Canelo. The Mexican pound-for-pound star's net worth has increased thanks to fights against Chavez and Golovkin as well as his lucrative match against Floyd Mayweather, which earned 2.2 million PPV buys. Since his defeat to Dmitry Bivol, the potential rematch has grown in popularity and is expected to surpass his 2013 fight with Floyd Mayweather in terms of earnings.

Over the years, boxing has been classified as a very affordable sport, with the participant only being required to have a good pair of gloves and shorts only. However, in recent years, the sport has evolved with the high number of sponsorships that have raised the matches' stakes. Recently, American YouTuber Jake Paul amazed the world when he revealed a boxing shorts that cost Ksh136 million (USD1.2 million). In boxing, the trunks are designed with an elastic band making it loose on the body to help the fighters have better footwork abilities. Before the match, Paul flaunted that he would be wearing the high costing boxing trunks for his match against Alex Wilder. However, as the match approached, Wilder withdrew citing an injury with Tyron Woodly getting slotted for the match. The YouTuber turned boxer wore shorts that had two Rolex watches taped to his waistband. The shorts also had LCD screens at the bottom with additional features containing red, white and blue stars and stripes. In that match, Paul brutally knocked out Woodley with a vicious right hand. Woodley was left out for the count, face down on the floor, as he lost to the American celebrity for a second time. Paul had in a past match wore boxing trunks with Led lights broadcasting his name, for the first time in boxing history. The shorts were orange in colour with the boxer's name rotating around his waistline on the LED’s. At that time many questioned whether it was legal for him to fight in such trunks, however, he was allowed to fight in them.
