When the Mariners beat the Orioles 6-5 in 10 innings Tuesday night, it marked the first time in baseball history all 15 home teams won on the same day. It also marked the start of a celebration for a 46-year-old bettor from Dublin, Ireland, who took home $100,810 on a 15-team parlay from the William Hill sports book in the U.K. that featured every big-league home team and a couple round-robin wagers. The punter, the British term for bettor, wagered the U.S. equivalent of $78.10 at odds of almost 1,300-to-1. After winning the wager on the fourth walk-off win of the night, the bettor told William Hill that he wouldn’t have placed the bet had he known home teams had never before gone 15-0. Talk about the luck of the Irish. The previous mark for most home wins without a loss was 12-0, a record set on May 23, 1914. According to STATS, home teams have gone 11-0 six times, thrice in the 1800s. The most recent 11-0 home sweep took place on Sept. 16, 1989. The payout would’ve been much higher except for the fact that only two of the 15 home teams were underdogs. In November 2014, a Delaware bettor put down $5 for a 15-team parlay that would’ve paid $100,000 (20,000-to-1 odds) had he correctly picked all 15 NFL games against the spread. According to the Delaware Lottery office, the bettor had picked the first 14 games correctly and only needed the Indianapolis Colts to beat the Philadelphia Eagles by more than three points to pocket a hundred grand. However, that didn’t happen as the Colts ended up blowing a 14-point lead in the third quarter, amid some controversial calls, and losing 30-27 on a field goal as time expired. Before you run out and place a daily parlay on home teams, you might want to consider the fact that STATS calculated the odds of a 15-0 home sweep at 1 in 32,768, or about once in every 80 years. What's the biggest odds a horse has won at?

300-1 Sawbuck became the longest-priced winner in the history of jump racing with victory at odds of 300-1.

Punchestown was the scene of a huge upset

Sawbuck became the longest-priced winner in the history of jump racing with victory at odds of 300-1. The rank outsider, ridden by Charlie O'Dwyer for his trainer father Conor, won the opening maiden hurdle at Irish track Punchestown on Tuesday. His prospects in the Racing Post newspaper had been summarised as: "Modest sort with no realistic chance." Speaking after the four-length victory, jockey O'Dwyer said: "I'm completely surprised by him." He added: "He's been in great form at home and after his last two runs over hurdles, I came here thinking if he could finish somewhere in the middle of them, I would have been delighted. "The minute the flag dropped he travelled great and I couldn't fault him anywhere." In his six previous races, Sawbuck had finished 14th, ninth, 14th, seventh, 16th and 10th. He had been beaten by an aggregate of 98 lengths in his only two other efforts over hurdles. The gelding matched the record for the biggest winner ever set by 300-1 chance He Knows No Fear - who won a race on the Flat at Leopardstown in August 2020. Trainer Conor O'Dwyer is a former top jockey who won the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Imperial Call in 1996. Bookmakers said a small number of punters had backed the horse for minor stakes.
