Read More »It wasn’t easy for Joseph to face the fact that his brothers hated him enough to kill him, but he endured all that went with their foiled plot, believing God was directing him where he needed to go. It wasn’t easy for Peter and other early Christians to be ridiculed, beaten, thrown in jail, and killed because of their faith. But they knew that Jesus meant what he said when he told them to teach the Gospel to all nations (Matthew 28:18-20) and they weren’t about to let Him down. Vera, Katy, and countless other women (and men) know that leaning on the LORD is the only way they can make it through each day without the children they have lost or long for but will not have. They lean on him for strength, courage, comfort, and hope for whatever he will do to make their hearts and minds capable of being joyful in him. You can, too. Yes, you can. You simply have to decide to do so. In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, Jesus addresses this situation in Matthew 6:31-34 and again in Matthew 7:9-11. Let’s look at the first passage now… Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. In this first passage of scripture, Jesus is telling us that when we lean on our own understanding instead of His, we are self-inducing unnecessary worries and struggles on ourselves. He promises (and Jesus doesn’t break a promise) that if we lean on God by putting Him first, everything else will be taken care of for us.

Read More »Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! (Matthew 7:9-11) In these verses Jesus is essentially saying, “Don’t you trust God? Don’t you know that he is the ‘dad of all dads’?”
