What is a 5 pick round robin?

A round robin is a series of concurrent parlays on the same ticket. Instead of creating a five-team parlay where one loss would cause the ticket to lose, betting a round robin would break those five teams into smaller parlays.

What is a Round Robin?

A round robin is a series of concurrent parlays on the same ticket. Instead of creating a five-team parlay where one loss would cause the ticket to lose, betting a round robin would break those five teams into smaller parlays. Depending on how the ticket is structured, the bettor can lose one or more leg and still be profitable.

How Do I Bet Round Robins?

In the example above, those five teams are being broken into groups of twos and threes. So instead of a single five-team parlay where one loss would kill the whole ticket, this ticket is getting broken into 20 different combinations at $10 a piece.

Each team is involved in ten of those 20 combinations. If LSU loses, the ten combinations that have LSU listed will all lose, but the remaining ten without LSU will still be alive. If you’re looking to place a round robin wager at an actual sports book with a ticket writer, you would walk up to the counter and ask for, “A round robin by ____’s.” At most sports books, the ticket writer isn’t concerned with how many total teams you have, they are concerned with how many combinations you want to use. In the example above, you would ask for, “A round robin by two’s and three’s.”

Why Should I Bet Round Robins?

Safety. In the example above with five teams split into two’s and three’s for $10 a parlay, the bettor would profit $296 even though one of their teams lost. They would cash six of the two team parlays (A two-team parlay at -110 odds pays +260. Six of those at $26 a piece is $156). They would cash four of the three team parlays (A three-team parlay at -110 odds pays +600. Four of those at $60 a piece is $240). So they’ve profited $396 and lose $100 from the ten that missed. When betting point spreads (using traditional -110 odds) in a round robin, it’s pretty easy to figure out your potential return like we just did above. However, betting underdogs on the moneyline in a round robin format can be quite lucrative. Depending on the size of the underdog moneyline prices, bettors can walk away from a round robin ticket with a very nice score if only a small handful of their teams win their game outright.
