A Lucky 63 consists of 63 bets of equal value on selections in six separate events: six singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 four-folds, six five-folds and one six-fold accumulator. We explain how a Lucky 63 works as well as the benefits and drawbacks of this type of bet In a Lucky 63 only one of your selections needs to win to get a payout. Your doubles, trebles, four-folds, five-folds and six-fold mean that with each additional winner your returns can jump significantly as more and more of the multiple bets win. It is a bet that’s most commonly used by horse racing bettors.

How does a Lucky 63 work?

The 63 bets of a Lucky 63 cover your six selections as follows:

Why should I place a Lucky 63 bet?

If you’ve got six selections in different events and think each of them will win, a Lucky 63 is a way to back all of them individually, but also make sure you're in the mix for bigger payouts if two or more of your selections are successful. A Lucky 63 is quicker and easier to place than making all 63 bets involved individually.

Does a Lucky 63 have any drawbacks?

The chief drawback of a Lucky 63 bet is that all 63 bets have to have the same stake (the unit stake), which means you can’t decide to put more or less money on particular bets. For example you may wish to have a higher stake on your singles than on the six-fold which is far less likely to win. If you want to customise your Lucky 63 stake in this way you have to place each bet individually, which is why many people prefer to go for the Lucky 63 in spite of this drawback.

How to work out Lucky 63 bet winnings

Using our Lucky 63 Bet Calculator is the easiest way to calculate what you’d win in any permutation of your Lucky 63 results. Here’s how you work it out yourself: If you have fractional odds convert them into decimals by dividing the first number in the fraction by the one on the other side of the / then adding one.

Single bets: decimal odds x stake = return

Doubles: selection one odds x selection 2 odds = return

Trebles: selection one x selection two x selection three = return

How does an each-way Lucky 63 work?

The each-way Lucky 63 is one in which all 63 bets are each-way bets so it contains a total of 126 bets and the total stake for an each-way Lucky 63 is double what you need for a standard Lucky 63. The each-way Lucky 63 gives you a payout for every horse that places as well as every horse that wins. Bookies tend to offer 1/5 of the win odds for the place part of horse racing each-way bets. This means a £1 each-way bet (costing £2) on a 5/1 horse pays out at Evens for placed horses, meaning your place return would be your £1 profit, plus the returned £1 stake for the winning place bet. This means it’s sensible to include selections in your each-way Lucky 63 for which the each-way place payout on an each-way single will be more than your original stake. If you go each-way on selections at odds of below 5/1 and they place you would lose money on the each-way single bets in your Lucky 63.

What is the difference between a Lucky 63 and a Heinz?

A Lucky 63 is the 'full coverage' version of a Heinz. This is because a Heinz doesn’t include the singles that feature in a Lucky 63 and you win nothing with only one winning selection. A Heinz consists of 26 bets, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, six four-folds and 1 five-fold accumulator. A 50p Heinz costs £28.50. If the six selections you want to bet on are trading at short odds, a Heinz may be a better multiple bet than a Lucky 63. If the returns on your picks as single bets aren’t anything to write home about you may prefer to use more of your total stake on the multiples, which can yield bigger payouts.
