How does a Lucky 15 work?

The 15 bets of a Lucky 15 cover your four selections as follows:

Why should I place a Lucky 15 bet?

If you’ve got four selections in different events and you fancy each of them to win, a Lucky 15 covers all the multiple combinations (doubles, trebles and four-fold) and adds the insurance of four singles in case only one selection comes in.

Does a Lucky 15 have any drawbacks?

The main drawback of a Lucky 15 bet is that all 15 bets have the same stake (the unit stake). This means you are unable to tailor your staking in relation to which of your selections you like the most. An alternative is to add all the bets involved to your betting slip separately. This would allow you to stake more on the singles and multiples that include your most fancied selections and less on those including picks that are more of a long shot.

How to work out Lucky 15 bet winnings

Using our Lucky 15 bet calculator is the easiest way to calculate what you stand to win. Take the following steps to work it out yourself: If you have fractional odds convert them into decimals. Do this by dividing the top number in the fraction by the bottom number and adding one to your answer. (For example, 2/1 becomes 3.0 and 9/4 becomes 3.25.)

Single bets: decimal odds x stake = return (including stake)

Doubles: selection 1 odds x selection 2 odds = return (including stake)

Trebles: selection 1 odds x selection 2 odds x selection 3 odds = return (including stake) Four-fold: selection 1 odds x selection 2 odds x selection 3 odds x selection 4 odds = return (including stake)

Lucky 15 Bonus for one winner

How does an each-way Lucky 15 work?

An each-way Lucky 15 is a type of Lucky 15 in which all the bets are each-way bets. This means it includes a total of 30 bets and the total stake for an each-way Lucky 15 is double that of a standard Lucky 15. The idea of opting for an each-way Lucky 15 is that you will get a return not only for every horse that wins but every horse that places as well. Most bookmakers pay around 1/5 of the win odds for the place part of horse racing each-way bets. This means a £1 each-way bet (costing £2) on a 5/1 horse would pay out at evens if the horse placed, meaning your return would be your £1 profit, plus the returned £1 stake for the winning place bet. As a result, it makes sense to have selections in which the each-way place payout will be more than your original stake.

What is the difference between a Lucky 15 and a Yankee?

A Lucky 15 is the ‘full coverage’ version of the Yankee bet. Yankees consist of six doubles, four trebles and one four-fold, but don’t include the four singles. A £1 Yankee costs £11. If you have four selections at short odds a Yankee may be a better multiple than a Lucky 15, as the returns on the individual single bets may not be substantial.
