We’ve all heard the phrase, “Age is just a number.” But what does that really mean?

Simply put, your chronological age is simply the number of years you’ve been on Earth. It’s calculated by subtracting the year you were born from the current year. But your mental age, aka intellectual age, is determined by your attitude, behavior, and intelligence. The concept of mental age was first introduced by Alfred Binet who developed the first mental age test in 1905. Binet’s theory laid the foundation for the intelligence quotient (IQ) tests that are widely used today. It’s not uncommon for someone to have a different mental age versus their chronological age. In fact, it was originally thought that the average mental age of adults was 16 — but was later found to be about 13.5. So, a person who’s 40 years old may have a mental age of less than 30, or a person who’s 30 may have a mental age of 60 years old. Whether you’re young at heart or have an “old soul,” you’re you, and it’s OK to be who you are. You may be a 25-year-old who likes to go to bed at 8:00 pm and rise with the dawn. Or a 56-year-old who likes the nightlife, partying until dawn and sleeping until noon. No matter your age — chronological or mental — try to embrace it and accept who you are.

Can you score a goal with your head?

In general, a forward uses a header to score a goal, while a defender usually uses a header to prevent the scoring of a goal by the opponent. A header is often the best option when the ball is in air, because of the rule that a player can't make contact with the ball using their hands.

A header[1] is a technique that is used in association football to control the ball using the head to pass, shoot or clear. This can be done by standing, jumping or diving position.[2] Header is a common technique and is used by players in almost every match. In general, a forward uses a header to score a goal, while a defender usually uses a header to prevent the scoring of a goal by the opponent. A header is often the best option when the ball is in air, because of the rule that a player can’t make contact with the ball using their hands. Most header goals are scored as a result of a cross or a corner. The playmaker passes the ball across the goal in the air, and the attacking player (either standing, jumping or diving position) strikes the ball with his head.[3] Footballers such as Tim Cahill, Marco van Basten, Fernando Torres, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andy Carroll, Didier Drogba, Alvaro Morata, Harry Kane, Luuk de Jong, Olivier Giroud, Gareth Bale, Javier Hernandez, Sergio Ramos, Peter Crouch, Miroslav Klose, Giorgio Chiellini, Ali Daei and Abby Wambach are some examples of players who are notable for their quality headers.[4][5][6]

Health risks [ edit ]

As with other high-impact sports such as boxing, ice hockey, and American football, concerns over player safety have been increasing. Especially concerning are concussion and the related chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which can result from intentional impact of the head with the ball[7] as well as unintentional collision with other players.[8] U.S. Soccer has taken actions in "eliminating heading for children 10 and under, and limiting the amount of heading in practice for children between the ages of 11 and 13."[9]
