Throughout the history of the six nations, there have been some close beatings, then there have been some batterings. The highest beating to be recorded in history was way back in 2001. This would go down in history as the biggest win for any team in the competition. To make matters worse for Italy, they had not long been in the competition, having only been in it for 1 year. Luckily, 75,000 fans packed inside the ground to watch such a notorious victory. England’s star man Jonny Wilkinson scored 4 penalties and 9 conversions. As well as this being the biggest victory, it is also the most points scored by any team, in a single match, in the tournament. Unfortunately for England, despite such dominance in this game, they couldn’t manage to continue this form to win the Grand Slam that year. This does not mean to say that they underperformed throughout the season, as only 11 out of 22 Six Nations have ended with a Grand Slam.
