The ‘shortest boxing match ever’ saw a bout finish after one second without a single punch thrown. American Curtis Harper was disqualified after exiting the ring seconds after the opening bell in a fight against Efe Ajagba. The bout held earlier this year was live on TV and held at the Minneapolis Armory in Minnesota. But while many thought Harper was scared to fight Ajagba, who was undefeated and who had knocked out his previous five opponents, he has claimed it was for different reasons. Harper said it was in protest of his purse - he was only set to earn about $6,000 for the six-round fight. His walkout left many dumbfounded, with even his wife, Sandra Rosenberg, saying that she had no idea he would do that, reports ESPN. The same publication state that they had obtained a copy of a fight contract signed by Harper, who sent booking agent Marvin Romero a text reading: "Just sent [the contract] in. I'm closing this fight with you no matter what. Just need to get official approval." But wife Rosenberg said her husband never received a contract that was signed by the fight's promoter, Warriors Boxing's Leon Margules. She claims when he signed the contract, her husband didn't know the fight would be aired on television. Leon Margules, president of Warriors Boxing, said: "I didn't know it was an issue until now because he never brought it up until after the fight. But of course, he could have had it. Commission required it before weigh-in." Rosenberg, said: "Efe doesn't understand much English. I told him, 'I love my husband. Take it easy on him.' Lighthearted. I'm a silly kind of person." Harper said on the incident: "It was not a matter of caring about the opponent. There was no fear from me of getting in that ring. As you can see before the fight, I was joking, smiling. There was no fear of Efe Ajagba."
