5 - Baseball - Pawtucket Red Sox v Rochester Red Wings (1981)

The longest baseball game ever lasted more than eight hours. It was suspended at 4am by which time the crowd had shrunk from 1,740 people to just 19! When it restarted two months later, Pawtucket scored a run and clinched the game after just 18 minutes of play!

4 - Tennis - Isner v Mahut (2010)

The first round clash between John Isner from America and Nicolas Mahut from France at Wimbledon 2010 has gone down in tennis history as the longest match ever! It took more than 11 hours to play over the course of three days. Isner finally won it 70-68 in the final set. Both players were given special awards for their epic achievement.

3 - Snooker - Taylor v Davis (1985)

Dennis Taylor and Steve Davis's 1985 World Snooker Championship final is probably the most famous snooker match in history and took almost 15 hours to complete. Taylor lost the first eight frames, but fought back to 17-17. The whole match came down to who could pot the black in the final frame, which Taylor managed, winning the trophy.

2 - Cricket - England v South Africa (1939)

England's cricket match against South Africa in 1939 was played over 10 days, in which time 1,981 runs were scored! After all that time the game ended in a draw because England had to catch their boat back home.
