Is 50 22 a rule in 7s?

No. In this letter to its member Unions in September 2021, World Rugby confirmed that the Global Law Trials covering 50:22 and the Goal-Line Drop Out will not be implemented in the Sevens game.

We’ve had this question a number of times lately, so here’s the answer. No. In this letter to its member Unions in September 2021, World Rugby confirmed that the Global Law Trials covering 50:22 and the Goal-Line Drop Out will not be implemented in the Sevens game. The other law trials announced last year are active in all forms of the game – allowing a single latcher, banning the flying wedge/mini-scrum, and protecting the jackler – and will be refereed across all forms of the game.

World Rugby say the laws website and apps are being updated.

The full set of Global Law Trials are being reviewed later in the Spring as the governing body seeks to make recommendations to its Council meeting in May about whether to move them into full law. There is a twelve-month pre-Rugby World Cup laws moratorium during which no changes are made unless specifically related to player welfare.
